Smartpilot Inboard Autopilot Systems
“The autopilot steered, giving my wife two hands instead of one to control
the sheets, guys and downhaul while I moved the baby stay and dip pole
gybed – then, still on the foredeck, used the remote control to gybe the
boat while my wife controlled the mainsheet.”
Corepack consisting of: course computer, fluxgate
compass and rudder reference transducer.
COREPACK
Next to choosing the boat itself, choosing the
right autopilot can be one of the most important
decision a boat owner has to make. With a vast
array of autopilot models and configurations
to choose from, selecting the right autopilot
can seem like a daunting task. The following
pages are designed to help you choose the right
Raymarine SmartPilot system for your boat.
A SmartPilot system consists of three elements:
Autopilot control Head
This is the display unit you use to control your
autopilot system. Raymarine offers a number of
options, including multiple control heads, as well
as full-function remotes and joystick controls.
Corepack
The corepack is the central intelligence hub of
the autopilot system, linking your control head to
the drive unit.
Drive Unit
The drive unit is the part that interfaces with
your vessel's steering system to keep you on the
right course. Raymarine has a broad range of
drive units, to match almost any type of steering
system.
Over the next few pages, we'll explain the factors
to consider when choosing each of these parts of
your system.
